Roundup Foundation.

This last summer I had the opportunity to start a new adventure in Roundup, Montana. This project intrigues me in that I have not done anything like it before. We will be working on a barn that will be made out of steel, not wood. Conventional construction is done with wood. I don’t know the exact numbers but I asked Matt Johnson who’s job this is what the rough difference in cost is to build this 60’x50′ barn with an apartment in it. Wood construction would be around the $120K mark where as the steel structure is costing his client around $30K. Why I asked are people not building more with steel? The simple truth is that it isn’t conventional. I’ve found in the last handful of years and jobs that people are just not comfortable with unconventional methods of constructing anything. Yes it is more cost effective they say, but this is how we’ve always done it.

Bullshit!

One of the most difficult things I’ve run into when I was working for Concrete Stabilization Technologies as a sales rep here in Montana five years ago was that same mentality. This is how it’s done and we’re not about to change. Change I know is tough but without change whether it’s physical, mental, or spiritual is stagnant and will keep you trapped and not moving upward towards ones potential. Okay enough with the soap box crapola. I need to see and hear that just as much as the next guy. That’s why I’m excited to be part of something familiar but totally new. I’ve been around construction most of my life, I’m one of those guys who is pretty good at a lot of things but not even close to being an expert in anything.

Check out a few videos that I made for this project.
