This is going to sound weird but I totally believe it – if you give off good vibes around your plants and garden, encouraging good growth, your plants will thrive.

I’ve wanted to build one of these for a few years. I’m pretty excited about the process and can’t wait to harvest the four varieties of fingerling potatoes that we planted. I’ve read that creating a potato box is an incredible way to achieve a killer yield on your spuds, one such article that I like is from Mother Earth News.

The potato box is on it’s side, I was constructing it out of an old pallet. The wood is oak so I had to pre drill holes for my screws to go in.

The box dimensions that I chose are 3’x3′ square, that is 2′ tall when set down. I’ve added the back side of the potato box and two boards on the sides but left the front only one board tall for now.

Spud Dirt Prep

This is a small tilled area that still needed some edge turned over along the driveway.

Spud Dirt Prep Screening

I built myself a screen out of some old wood pieces and 1/2″ wire mesh. I toss away the roots, grass, and wood chunks into the red bucket to be composted, and keep the clean sifted dirt in the wheelbarrow.

Spud Screened Soil

Love to run my fingers through the newly sifted dirt. I have so many fond memories of newly dug up earth – I absolutely love the smell.

We planted four types of fingerling potatoes, four clusters in each corner. Add water, let the sun do it’s job, and we’re good to go.
