Behind the Scenes of a Music Video

Last week I had the opportunity to help out with my first music video. Let me step back and go to late February.

A few months ago I was over at a friend’s house for a party. Mary Kehoe and I were talking about doing cool diverse shit and how it influences our writing. She asked me if I knew about Soundcolor Studios. Mary told me to connect with the Boise Brothers (pronounced like Boys, not that city in Idaho) at Soundcolor Studios. I went over a few days later and met Michael Boise. I liked the studio, the atmosphere, vibe, the excitement for all things artistic and knew after only a few minutes of meeting Michael that I wanted to be part of this.

I went to my first meeting on February 26th, the last day of the month when the members of Soundcolor Studios meet. I was voted in to be part of this incredible group. Music, Art, Video. That is the what encompasses this incredible group. I found a place to call home.

Fast forward to last week the 20th of April. My iPad was dinging with Messenger alerts from Michael Boise asking if any Soundcolor members wanted to help with a music video for The Sleepless Elite (FB link). I showed up not knowing what the hell I was going to be doing but excited to be part of this.

Michael Boise asked me if I knew anyone over 18 that would like to be part of the video.

I called my Hannah up and asked her if she wanted to be part of the music video. “Dad, I knew about this three days ago.” I know that tone – damn, my dad’s going to be there. As Hannah hung up I smiled and said, “Yep.”

We gathered up the gear for the shoot and headed over to Baylor and Carolina’s (YouTube Link) house here in Livingston.

We were early and started setting up lights mostly downstairs in the creepy basement. I actually saw Carolina shudder when I asked what was behind some cabinets in their basement. Hunter D’Antuono and I started hanging christmas lights which look saa-weeeeet in the video. I’ve see the video during the editing process and I can’t wait until it’s released. I think you all will like it a bunch.

My main job other than helping set up lights was to take pictures with my iPad of people and what positions they were in when moving from one camera to another so that the shots, people, and props were the same. I totally had a great time and wanted to share a few behind the scenes pictures of the music video.

When the video is released to the public I’ll post another short blog linking you to it.
